A share is proportionate ownership in a real business, which is why equities are the one asset class most contemporary scholars permit outright — and why the whole question moves to which business, and what its balance sheet looks like.

Holding time is not the issue. The three concerns underneath the label — riba, gharar and maysir — are, and they separate a cash purchase of a screened stock from a leveraged short of the same stock held the same five minutes.

Exchanging currency is explicitly permitted; retail leveraged forex is a different transaction wearing its name. Spot settlement, overnight swaps, and what a "swap-free Islamic account" does and does not fix.
